Drop-in wool carding and drop-spinning workshop session with Jane Ford (Stroud Textile Trust). Hand-carding is a traditional method of preparing fleece and fibres for spinning woollen yarns. The purpose of carding is to disentangle and straighten the wool fibres for subsequent spinning or felting. Following on from the carding, participants may try their hand at drop-spinning, a technique which produces yarn. This beginner drop-in session is suitable for all ages. The fleece is sourced locally.
This workshop is part of a series of events inspired by the agricultural histories of the area and the Museum in the Park's 'prize sheep' paintings and associated pieces from the collection. The events explore contemporary models of local and regionally connected farming for low-impact textile crafting practices.
