Solar dyeing is a natural dyeing method, using the sun as a heat source. This starters’ workshop involves an instructional video with local artist Marianne van der Tas and curator and researcher Patricia Brien, and a small wool and plant dye pack. The pack will be mailed to participants, and the activity carried out independently in conjunction with the instructional video.

There are 30 places available. Email the event organiser ( to receive your materials pack via post and receive the video link for the workshop. The workshop video will be available from Friday 12 - Sunday 14 November 2021.

This workshop is part of a series of events inspired by the agricultural histories of the area and the Museum in the Park's 'prize sheep' paintings and associated pieces from the collection. The events explore contemporary models of local and regionally connected farming for low-impact textile crafting practices.
