Come along to hear speakers explore and reflect on the past, present and future of the 'pastoral'.
Dr Terry Gifford (author of Pastoral) will reflect on the tradition of georgic literature (literature dealing with agriculture or rural topics), the recent evolution of the 'pastoral' and what it means today. Patricia Brien will look at the human connection with sheep, which have been a ‘companion’ species for millennia - from their mythical past, to the future of sustainable wool at Stroud's inaugural Wool Week 2021.
This event is part of a series of events inspired by the agricultural histories of the area and the Museum in the Park's 'prize sheep' paintings and associated pieces from the collection. The events explore contemporary models of local and regionally connected farming for low-impact textile crafting practices.
