This interactive event encourages people to adopt the tote bag as a lens through which to view contemporary feminisms and their relationships with decolonization and commercialisation. It will look at past examples of feminist messaging on bags, such as the use of logos from the Women’s Liberation Movement. Some recent feminist books have achieved tote bag ‘slogan’ status and this event encourages you to pay attention to what appears on these tote bags and what does not. You'll also have the chance to sketch a feminist tote bag and get involved in group discussions about the topic.

Please register on Eventbrite and the first 40 to register and email a postal address before 31 October will receive a tote bag and fabric pen so they can take part at home. Otherwise you can register to watch the event, which will include a ten minute video looking at past and contemporary examples of bags, and in person discussion.
