The multi-award-winning film His House (2020) depicts the harrowing experience of two asylum-seekers tormented by a sinister force in their new English residence. The film metaphorizes the antiblack system haunting Britain, and invites important questions: how do we dismantle the racially oppressive structures that determine our everyday existence? What would a society without such structures look like? How do we tear down His House and build Our Home?

Drawing from Gothic, Horror and Afrofuturist traditions, Dr Maisha Wester has curated a virtual exhibition that showcases a range of artistic responses to this question. His House to Our Home features visual art, film, creative writing and music from commissioned artists and community contributors; all of whom use the arts to imagine a renewed British society, free from racial oppression.

This celebration event at Theatre Deli marks the launch of the exhibition. Come along for an evening of film, music and poetry, whilst engaging with some select pieces from the virtual exhibition. There will also be an opportunity to record your own stories about making Britain home: the challenges, victories and future vision. Full programme TBA.

The online exhibition will be available to view from 19 November.
