Winning the Vote: Equal Rights Past and Future

November 16

Who should vote? Is the vote a right or a duty? When is one ready to vote? These and other questions will be explored with secondary school students through workshops which will focus on debating skills. Workshops will look at the power of deeds and words through the history of suffrage, as well as working on ways to find effective representative representation in the 21st century. The day will move the debate forward by challenging the humanist values on which democratic representation is based by asking for possible alternative modes for effective democratic representation, and new venues of discussion and conversation.
