Walk Through the Walls

November 20, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

This immersive walk through Canterbury from the Westgate to the 19th-century prison charts changing attitudes from the early modern period to the present, covering everything from vagrancy, revolt, treason and education. 2018 marks Canterbury’s 30th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage site and 150 years since the ending of public executions. Explore the places and spaces where power and authority have been displayed, from scenes of pillory and execution to early attempts at prison reform. The event will end with a performance of historic songs in the 19th-century prison now owned by Canterbury Christ Church University.
