Tracing the Footsteps of Tudor Leicester

17 November, 2019, 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join this event for a talk, workshop and walk in Leicester’s city centre for a unique encounter with its Tudor past! In the early years of Henry VIII’s reign, a bitter conflict between the two leading families of Grey and Hastings spilled out onto the Leicester streets. Honour and the struggle for power were at the heart of the dispute. The case was brought to the court of Star Chamber, and the surviving documents preserve the voices and alleged actions of those involved.

The event will begin with a talk on the politics of Tudor Leicester, followed by a workshop where you can have a go at reading Tudor handwriting using this fascinating court case as your evidence. You’ll then follow the action from the case by taking to the city streets for a guided walk, where you’ll trace 500-year-old footsteps through historic Leicester.
