The Origins of Leather
20 November, 2018 - 22 November, 2018
Where does leather come from? This is partly a question of history and geography: Northampton has historically been the centre of Britain’s leather trades, owing to its topography and location, and similar stories can be told all over the world. But it is also a question of the material’s origins in animal skin, and the complex processes that have to be carried out in order to make it usable as a material.
These lunchtime events at the National Leather Collection are an opportunity to explore these intriguing issues. The new museum opened in Northampton town centre last year, and tells the story of this fascinating and flexible material from prehistory to the present. These workshops feature interactive displays, opportunities to make leather crafts and an introductory talk by a different expert every day at 1:00pm. Come along and discover the history of leather!
This event will take place from Tuesday 20 November to Thursday 22 November between 12:00pm and 2:00pm.
