In this workshop, create your own cabinet of curiosities to keep small items in and learn how to conserve them for future generations!
The Gell family archive at the Derbyshire Record Office contain letters, diaries and other material relating to the polar explorer Sir John Franklin, his wife Jane, and his daughter Eleanor, who married into the Gell family. Within the archive is a small collection of mementos from around the world. In 2019, a crowdfunding campaign enabled Derbyshire Record Office to catalogue, package and photograph these objects.
In this online artist-led workshop, learn about Lady Jane’s collection, make your own cabinet of curiosities from household items and learn how to look after your museums from Derbyshire Record Office conservators.
This event is suitable for families. Please note, in order to join this event, you will be asked to read and agree to the University of Derby’s Online Safety Agreement; this will be sent to you to read prior to the event.
