The Mind in the Cave
16 November, 2019, 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
Art is an essential part of being human. Cave painting is one of the earliest, most mysterious of its forms – strange patterns and images of animals hidden deep within caverns. Its survival and re-discovery after tens of thousands of years is extraordinary! Many theories relate to the purpose and creation of these beautiful images, drawn and painted in secrecy and darkness.
Join Guerilla Archaeology and award winning artist Paul Evans in a hands-on creative experiment, recreating cave paintings using ancient materials (and the hands, eyes and brains inherited from our Paleolithic ancestors).
‘The Mind in the Cave’ will offer participants the opportunity to explore the mysterious abstract patterns observed in the earliest art, and to experiment with the role of memory in creating the stunning images of animals that we see in the cave paintings of Europe.
