The great knitting workshop: picking up dropped stitches

23 November, 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Free

Come and learn how the ingenuity of historical knitters shapes what we can create today in this workshop on the rediscovery of the lost art of hand-crafting. Pastimes such as knitting and sewing have become popular again, with magazines dedicated to various crafts and TV shows such as The Great British sewing bee. This event explores the current knitting renaissance with a talk on 18th and 19th-century education and fashion, and the chance to get hand on and help make a collaborative knitted blanket using instructions from 19th-century pattern books.

This event is part of the series Hidden histories and recovering cultures.
