Telling the Other Story
23 November, 2019, 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm

This screening of the documentary Some Stories will show what happened when fifteen Birmingham teenagers met fifteen Limerick teenagers in 2018 to swap stories from one another’s lives. One year on, these teenagers will reunite onstage after the screening to reveal its impact.
In November 2018, 15 teenagers from Birmingham and 15 teenagers from Limerick were brought together to forge connections by telling each other’s stories. Amidst the endless talk of borders and backstops, of divisions and differences, the timing felt particularly apt.
The project was hosted by the global charity Narrative 4, which uses storytelling to break down barriers and foster ‘radical empathy’ around the world. The results were extremely moving, and both the British and Irish students came away feeling profoundly changed.
Now, one year on, some of those students will be reunited for the screening of Some Stories, which captures the magic of that weekend. Made by filmmakers from B-Film: The Birmingham Centre for Film Studies, this inspirational documentary will be followed by a discussion and Q&A, during which the participants will reflect on the lasting impact of the project on their lives, as well as the importance of stories, now more than ever.
