Shoe and tell: a celebration of teenage identity

23 November, 2017 - 25 November, 2017

With so much emphasis on image and individuality, how do today’s teenagers negotiate the complexity of identity as they move into adulthood? This pop-up interactive exhibition of photographic images and supporting narratives takes visitors on an exploration of teenage identity through the lens of shoes. A series of photographs of Nottingham based teenagers and their shoes, together with extracts from their individual shoe narratives, illustrates the important role that an everyday object, such as shoes, has in communicating the complexity of identity for teenagers. The exhibition asks participants to reflect on what it really means to be a teenager today, while triggering personal reflections of their own teenage experiences. Visitors will be invited to write a personal teenage shoe story and contribute it to the ‘Shoe and tell memory tree’.

This exhibition is open from Thursday 23 November – Saturday 25 November (Thursday and Friday 10:00am-5:30pm, Saturday 10:00am–12:00pm)
