Rivers of Life

November 15, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Free

They say you can never step in the same river twice, yet rivers seem to be a fixture of our everyday lives. From the Tyne to the Tiber, regions and cities are defined by the water coursing through them. This evening of exhibitions and discussions will ask what we know about rivers, and what we ought to know if we are to continue to live along their banks and in their catchments. Visitors will find photography and film, poetry and virtual reality, as well as short talks by Newcastle academics on the past, present, and future of rivers. Whether you’re interested in the industrial history of the Tyne valley or the secrets of 21st-century surfing, the breeding grounds of kittiwakes or the aftermath of floods, this event has something for you.

Suitable for children aged 10+ and adults.
