Recollecting popular music memories in Merthyr Tydfil

25 November, 2017, 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm

What are the lost musical histories of popular music in Merthyr Tydfil and how do they resonate with the mainstream? How can lost local musical memories of the past resonate with young people today?

This event is a performance which will draw together material produced in a series of workshops run with residents and school children looking at the rich history of popular music that has taken place in their town, between 1955 to 1975. Led by musicologist professor Paul Carr and director Peter Morgan Barnes in conjunction with Merthyr Tydfil Public Libraries, the workshops will encourage community members to explore what they remember, prior to recording a series of short individual digital stories. These reminiscences will then be used as a starting point for school children to create their own interpretations of these lost histories, culminating in a final performance.
