Real Stories of the Windrush Children

November 23, 10:30 am - 11:45 am

For the pioneers of the Windrush generation, Britain was ‘the Mother Country’. They made the long journey across the sea, expecting to find a place where they would be welcomed with open arms; a land in which you were free to build a new life, eight thousand miles away from home. Mother Country is a remarkable new book that explores the reality of their experiences, and those of their children and grandchildren, through 22 unique real-life stories spanning more than 70 years.

Join the book’s editor, Charlie Brinkhurst-Cuff and two of the contributors Maria del Pilar Kaladeen and Gail Lewis as they read from their work and take questions from the audience. We are delighted to welcome Professor Tina K. Ramnarine (Department of Music, Royal Holloway, University of London) to chair this event. Refreshments will be served and copies of Mother Country will be available to purchase.
