Paignton lantern workshop
25 November, 2017, 9:15 am - 4:00 pm
The Paignton Lantern workshops will take place through a series of community making sessions with regional partners Torre Abbey, Paignton Library, Brixham Edge and the Palace Theatre, with Doorstep Arts as the lead cultural delivery partner.
Sat 25 November – Lantern and music-making workshops for children aged 4-14 at St Mary Magdalene Church Hall, Torquay, TQ1 4BX: 9.15-10.15 (children aged 4-7), 10.15-11.15 (children aged 7-11) and 11.30 to 12.30 (young people aged 11-14). These workshops are led by Wren Music and Doorstep Arts artists and are open to anyone.
The work is part of a larger programme of children and young people’s participatory arts in areas of high deprivation and fragmented community cohesion in Torbay. Paignton town centre is receiving intervention through participatory action research – it is a site which has been lost to the local community due to endemic drug use and violent crime, and the lantern procession is serving as a visible act of concerted community reclamation – animating and re-invigorating the central street with the involvement of local families.
Come and help make a lantern, which will feature as part of a procession later in the year!
