New Worlds of News

16 November, 2020, 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

This is an online event.

Join this discussion, led by Dr Susana Sampaio-Dias from the University of Portsmouth, to discover how COVID-19 has been explained to children in the news media.

How does journalism impact our understanding of the pandemic, especially for young people? How does it portray the ‘new world’ we now live in? How might it influence young people’s understanding of the world they will grow up to shape? How has it changed or challenged our sense of connectedness in a world of video conferencing? These questions and more will be explored through a talk and audience Q&A. You will have the opportunity to voice your own experiences of this subject, and also to learn more about journalism and media strategies as they are used during time of crisis, and the effects these can have on the next generation.

This event is part of the ‘Imagining New Worlds’ series by the University of Portsmouth.
