Mutual Improvement Café

19 November, 2020, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

This is an online event.

What offered a new world of education for a working-class Victorian? Why did working people come together once a week of an evening and what kind of things did they learn about? Come along to this online café to learn about the mutual improvement movement in 19th-century Wales and Liverpool.

The café will include a brief presentation overview of the 19th-century mutual improvement movement and how Dr Catherine Charlwood has been researching it in Wales and Liverpool. You’ll then get the chance to explore a virtual collaborative environment on MURAL allowing you to interact with source materials.

Then the group will join back together in the main session so that you can share what you think we lose today by not having such things as mutual improvement societies, as well as what you think a mutual improvement society programme could include today.

This is an online event: please let the organiser know of any accessibility requirements.
