Unearthing Lowick Lime
22 November, 2019, 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Engage with our industrial heritage through this exhibition and workshop to experience material lime. Lowick, in rural North Northumberland, was once a significant site of lime production, with three major limestone quarries and eleven lime kilns that were active during the 19th century. Join us at Baltic 39 in Newcastle city centre to engage with artworks inspired by the region’s industrial heritage, and learn from Lowick Heritage Group, who are working to conserve this important site. Led by artists Charles Danby and Rob Smith, this workshop and exhibition offers an engaging opportunity to discover how history fuels lime’s resurgence in architecture, micro-industry, and social and economic models of raw materials production in the region.
