London: labyrinth of loss – a walking tour through time

18 November, 2017, 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm

Free

Amidst the City of London’s vibrant streets, this walking tour will explore shifting attitudes towards lost property. Discover how objects- and the people who lost and found them- shed light on the hidden history of the growing metropolis. This interactive journey from Snow Hill Police Station to Fenchurch Street Railway Station will take you back in time, bringing to life illicit eighteenth-century practices of reclaiming stolen goods, before examining how a lawful system developed in the nineteenth century. Look at the various and ingenious means eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Britons developed to recover their lost possessions. This walk will be of interest to anyone curious about London’s history or who has lost something they loved.

This event is also taking place on Sunday 19 November.
