Life in a Pandemic: The Lothian Diary Project
12 November, 2020, 8:00 am - 22 November, 2020, 5:00 pm
Event Navigation

This is an online event.
Through the Lothians Diary Project, encounter the diversity of lockdown experiences among ordinary residents of Edinburgh and surrounds, preserved in authentic and creative vlogs and audio diaries. Discover the story behind the creation of this collection, with its unique design among global documentation of the pandemic. Find out how the diaries will form part of a Museums oral history archive, and how this data collection method is changing social science in COVID-19. Learn how community organisations are assisting the digitally excluded to make their voices heard.
Visitors to our website during the festival can engage with the diaries through an interactive digital map. Markers of significant lockdown venues link to audio and video segments of the diaries. The map situates the diaries in relation to community and geography. You will be invited to mark your own meaningful place of lockdown. These places can open or shut, lost or found, old or new. We hope to start a conversation with you about making your own diary.
Access is via the Lothian Lockdown Diary Project website.
The experience is digital. Audio clips will have transcripts.
