Join in this guided walk at Lamplighter’s Marsh, led by multi-award winning conservationist Steve England and community experts on local history. Explore the resurgence of nature in this unique post-industrial landscape. Lamplighter’s Marsh lies next to the tidal River Avon in Shirehampton where the river flows into the Severn estuary. It forms part of an important wildlife corridor as well as providing a habitat for nationally-rare plant species. Steve will be helping identify the local flora and fauna as well as migratory birds. The nature writer Tim Dee says that in the face of climate change and species depletion, the edgelands of towns and cities ‘might come to… mean as much to us as any wilderness ever might have done’. Come and fall in love with one of Bristol’s unsung, edgeland gems.
The walk will start from outside The Lamplighters Pub and Restaurant. The walk is suitable for wheelchair users. Please dress for the weather and bring a pair of binoculars if you can!
Two other versions of this walk will be led by a variety of experts throughout the Being Human festival.
