12 November, 2020, 5:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Event Navigation

This is an online event.
This evening of short talks will take you from the mixed-language newspapers of late 19th-century Algeria to book shops in Morocco, from French Resistance poets to British music magazines. It will explore the roles that print and book-making played for pioneers of different persuasions, uncovering some of the ways that books and the press have given form to worlds in the making. What examples did ‘new-world’ publications draw on? What readerships did they imagine? How do these ‘new imprints’ tie new worlds to older histories or imagined futures? These are some of the questions that the turn to print opens up on the cusp of a reordering of the world.
