Hidden Histories: Women and Books

Discover the roles that women have played as makers, collectors, and readers of books over the centuries through a day of hands-on activities. You will explore the hidden stories of women that objects tell with rare books from Liverpool Hope University’s Special Collections, then workshops with artists will allow you to practise the skills of printing and book-making to create your own simple prints and books inspired by the rare books and their histories.
Suitable for families and older children.
Activities:
10:30-12:00 – Introduction followed by a guided exploration of the rare books and their histories by book historian, Dr Louise Wilson.
13:00-16:00 – Hand press printing workshop led by Karen Edwards of Red Button Press, followed by book-making workshop led by artist, Elizabeth Willow.
