Ghosts in the Machine

16 November, 2019, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

All towns and their buildings have stories to tell, but who decides which accounts are heard and which are forgotten or suppressed? This walking tour of the former iron-working town of Merthyr Tydfil aims to uncover the ‘hidden histories’ – the effects of the industrial revolution through the development of the iron and coal industries and their subsequent demise. The walk will reveal the social history of the area, foregrounding stories of the people who have lived and worked in this melting pot of industrial activity. The walk will be followed by a creative writing workshop which will allow people to construct their own imaginative representations of the town’s past, present and future, inspired by their encounters on the ramble. The writing session will also employ techniques of sensory perception inspired by artefacts that will complement the tour.

Due to the nature of this event if you have any questions about accessibility we recommend getting in touch directly with the organiser.
