Fixing It: Beauty through Mending
22 November, 2020, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Event Navigation

This is an online event.
Learn how mending textiles can enhance their beauty with Rose Sinclair. This workshop will look at how we can enhance things we mend by considering how the repair might beautify them. Rose will use a range of techniques that can be applied to enhance and repair almost any textile object.
A kit and instructions will be provided to support your darning and to participate all you need is a garment in need of repair which you would like to ‘makeover’.
Rose is a Lecturer in Design Education at Goldsmiths. She is interested in the ways in which women’s textile ‘clubs’ (for sewing, mending, knitting together) have been a catalyst for the exchange of stories and for social and economic change.
Please note: It is hoped that this event will take place in-person and socially distanced at the shop, however it is possible it will be moved online. Register below to be kept updated. If this workshop is moved online, you will be sent materials and encouraged to drop your item off at the shop for the evolving installation.
This event is part of ‘Fixing It: Repair as Resistance’ project organised by Goldsmiths, University of London.
