Evolution of a Theory: Alfred Russel Wallace
November 23, 10:00 am - 2:00 pmFree
A day of discovering more about one of Wales’ foremost scientists, the pioneering naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace (1823-1913). In the historic Glynn Vivian Gallery, amongst the artifacts gathered from the four corners of the world, you will hear about the life and work of the man who led to the most revolutionary theory of the modern age – the theory of evolution.
In the morning there will be a workshop for schoolchildren with the actor Ioan Hefin and some of Swansea University’s scientists on Wallace’s life and work. This will be followed by a discussion, open to the public, between Ioan Hefin and the scientist and broadcaster, Elin Rhys, Honorary Fellow of Swansea University, on how the work and life of Wallace, a self-taught man, still inspires the world.
The events will be held through the medium of Welsh.
