Dodging the Black Death
November 14, 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
This talk by University of Lincoln’s Professor Carenza Lewis, well-known from Channel 4’s long running archaeological series Time Team, will show how our understanding of the origins and impact of the Black Death is being transformed by recent new research. Looking at data from Russian prairies, French graveyards and London railways alongside her own work in English villages including Lincolnshire, this talk will show what we can now say about the causes and scale of the Black Death’s catastrophic impact on medieval society, on its long-term effects on the world we inhabit today – and whether it could ever strike again. The accessible talk for people of all ages above 10 will be followed by a Q&A “Everything you always wanted to know about the Black Death but were afraid to ask…”.
This event is part of the ‘Moving Stories: Discovering Lives Lived Differently’ festival hub organised by the University of Lincoln.
