Devon in Translation
November 17 - November 18Free
If you were born outside of the UK you are warmly invited to come and discuss in your mother tongue your experiences of moving to Devon and to bring an object which evokes memories of these experiences. Your memories will be videoed and made into a short film which will be subtitled and screened in Exeter in 2019.
If you would like to participate, please contact us in advance regarding your spoken language and time slot. We can cover the seven languages taught in Exeter’s Department of Modern Languages (Mandarin Chinese, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish), but we will accommodate other languages where possible.
The project takes inspiration from a previous project called ‘Italians in Exeter’. It is led by Dr. Danielle Hipkins, whose research focuses on memories of culture, and supported by Valentina Todino of the Italian Cultural Association, Devon Development Education and the Cultural Champions’ project.
To express your interest in participating and discuss translation provision, please email Danielle Hipkins at D.E.Hipkins@exeter.ac.uk
This event runs on both Saturday 17th and Sundays 18th. Times as follows:
- Saturday: 10am-5pm
- Sunday: 12noon-4pm
