22 November, 2019, 1:45 pm - 3:30 pm
Event Navigation

Join us to rediscover Newcastle’s ‘Scottish’ dance tunes, composed by 18th-century dancing master Abraham Mackintosh. Find out why ‘Scottish’ dances became popular and explore how being closer to Edinburgh than London has long shaped Newcastle’s cultural heritage and identity.
The workshop will include:
– looking at music books from the period
– interactive talks with performances of the tunes
– participating in recreating the dances
This workshop is open to young people in years 7-13 and their teachers. Places are limited so please email the event organiser to register by 8 November.
The ‘Dancing on the Tyne’ Exhibition will run throughout the festival, 14 – 23 November.
A ‘Dancing on the Tyne’ Open Evening will take place on Friday 22 November, 17:30 – 19:30.
