Event Navigation

Rediscover Newcastle’s ‘Scottish’ dance tunes, composed by 18th-century dancing master Abraham Mackintosh. Find out why ‘Scottish’ dances became popular and explore how being closer to Edinburgh than London has long shaped Newcastle’s cultural heritage and identity.
Explore the exhibition and listen to short performance-talks to discover the local people and places who inspired Mackintosh’s tunes. Hear the tunes performed and join in some 18th-century dancing!
All ages welcome. Drop in any time during the opening hours.
The ‘Dancing on the Tyne’ Exhibition will run throughout the festival, 14 – 23 November.
