Crossing Borders with Books

November 21, 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

This event will offer a chance to talk about poetry translation with experts in the field – publishers, editors, academics and published translators. The line-up includes Clare Pollard, acclaimed poet and Editor of the magazine Modern Poetry in Translation, Tony Frazer, Editor & Publisher at Shearsman Books Ltd, who is regarded by many as “the poets’ champion”, and Prof. Timothy Mathews, Emeritus Professor of French and Comparative Criticism (UCL), author of several important works in the field. All three speakers have translated poetry.

Short reading of poetry in translation will conclude the event.

The fruit of a collaboration between an EU-funded research Fellow at the Institute of English Studies and academic staff at the Institute of Modern Languages Research, this event is also proudly co-organized with the magazine Modern Poetry in Translation.

Come join us to celebrate the art of poetry translation and the role translators, their editors and publishers, play in the circulation of books and poetry across borders, languages, and cultures!

Booking is not required but please arrive early to guarantee your seat.
