Beauty School Drop In
16 November, 2019, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Event Navigation

Visit this historical beauty salon and discover how women have used hair and make-up to express themselves from the 1950s to now. The salon will highlight changes to women’s lives, celebrate the diversity of women’s health experiences and investigate ideas around femininity.
At the event you can join craftivist activities and hear short talks on the histories of tanning and men’s changing hair styles. It is also a time for you to tell stories about the role beauty plays in your life and share photographs documenting your changing style. And if all this wasn’t enough you can get your nails done on the day by trans activist and nail artist Charlie Craggs.
There will be a toiletries collection at the event to fight hygiene poverty with goods being donated to a hygiene bank.
Although booking is not essential, registering your interest and estimated arrival time would be greatly appreciated and will help with organising the event.
This event is part of a short series that will run throughout the Being Human festival:
On Saturday 23 November between 10:00–16:30 there will be ‘Faces: An Exhibition of Changing Essex Style’.
On Saturday 23 November between 12:00–14:00 there will be ‘Glow Up: Zine Workshop’.
