(Beat)Making the North African Cool!

November 16, 2:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Interested in learning beat-making with a twist? Come and discover the rich and vibrant North African music tradition in this half-day workshop. Led by Dr Cristina Moreno Almeida and well-known Moroccan rapper and producer Dizzy DROS, this workshop will explore the history and culture of Hip Hop in North Africa as well as a wide range of the local music traditions including Arab, Amazigh, Andalusi and Gnawa. Dr Moreno Almeida will present her research on the fascinating history and politics of rap music in Morocco. Then, get hands-on and start beat-making with Dizzy DROS learning how each element of a beat is made. You will have the chance to create your own beats from scratch and can bring your own samples or use the ones provided by facilitators. Through the creation of hip hop beats, connect with Arab, Amazigh and African music cultural heritages.

Music production material and refreshments will be provided. In partnership with Dizzy DROS and the British Moroccan Society.
