Archives weekend

Come along for exclusive talks, tours and object handling sessions uncovering the collections held at the National Army Museum. The National Army Museum’s archives date from the English Civil War to the present day, and explore the life of the British Army and its soldiers. Get top tips on researching using archives and have hands-on access to the collections. Whether you’re an amateur researcher, an expert historian or a family looking for a fun day out, there’s something for everyone at the ‘Archives weekend’.

Archive detectives

Open all weekend, drop in from 10:30am–12:30pm and 1:30pm–4:00pm

Become a detective and take part in a family workshop, uncovering some artefacts and stories from the museum’s archives. Can you put all the pieces together to solve the puzzle?

Behind-the-scenes tours

Saturday 18 November 11:00am–11:30am and 2:00pm–2:30pm

Have you ever wondered what an archive looks like? Join Study Centre manager, Robert Fleming, as he reveals some of the hidden treasures in our archives and explains how they are catalogued and stored. He’ll also give you some tips on how to look after your precious items at home.

Treasures from the institutional archives

Sunday 19 November 2:00pm–3:00pm

Archivist, Penny Hutchins, shares stories and images tucked away in the museum’s institutional archives, spanning from the 1960s to the present day.
